Winter wish list, wardrobe edition

Winter is fast approaching and here are a few things that I would like to buy before the cold weather. The burgundy jumper has leatherette elbow patches, and is slightly loose in fit. The black shorts are high waisted and would require tights in the A/W weather, the boots are suitable for all season.

Fashion Journalism masterclass

Yesterday I attended a fashion masterclass with my University, as I study fashion journalism at the University of Sunderland. We got the train to London Friday morning at attended a lecture at 2oclock at Sunderland's Canary Wharf Campus.

Our lecture was by four well known fashion journalists:

Rachel Richardson - Editor of Fabulous magazine

Hattie Crisell - Free-lance journalist, has previously interned at Red magazine, worked for 4Beauty and the Big Brother website, she currently reports the the New York magazine The Cut.

Hannah Almassi - Deputy fashion news and features editor at Grazia.

Louise Gannon - A show business journalist, recently interviewed Justin Bieber, writes for Elle and Grazia.
I'm struggling to find a photo of Louise, however here is a link to a collection of her articles!
http://journalisted.com/louise-gannon?allarticles=yes
They highlighted the importance of having to want a career in journalism, and how we shouldn't expect it to come overnight or easily. In order to become a successful fashion journalist you need to constantly become an expert in new topics, continuously network and be friendly to everybody you meet as everyone is a contact.

Knowing your journalism law and shorthand is essential (I'm currently learning both at University), be a positive intern and getting your foot in the door at fashion is an ongoing, time consuming process.

Herve Leger by Max Azria, New York fashion week Spring/Summer 2013

Herve Leger's new collection featured the signature body-con dresses, with a twist of quilted fabric.

Quilt-making was the main inspiration behind this collection and it is a fresh perspective into Spring / Summer 2013. The dresses are a combination of the famous Herve Leger body-con dress and skater A-line dresses.

The models wear fabric which has been quilted into solid structures and often solidified by belts which look like PVC to draw attention to the small waist of the models. Some of the collection seems to reflect the current nineties revival as the tight summer dresses boast spaghetti straps and a mini length.

The shoes seem to be similar to Victoria Beckham's s/s shoes, they are heeled shoe boots and have a peep toe with buckle detail. The swimwear collection uses chains and animal print, the fabric also looks as if it has been plaited, and uses strips of fabric to resemble belts on some of the swimwear.

The collection seems to reflect many Autumn / Winter trends of grunge and Gothic revival, the collection looks to be very successful and cleverly designed to develop from A/W.

Glitter tip nails

Step one - paint the nail with a base colour coat (here I haven't used one)
Step two - using a clear nail polish (or a polish the same colour as the glitter you will use,) paint the tip of the nail and sprinkle the glitter over this while it is still wet. Leave to dry.

Step three - after the nail varnish and glitter had fully dried, remove any excess glitter by tapping it into the pot and neaten up the nails using cotton buds. Finally coat the nail with a good top coat.
