3.1 Phillip Lim New York fashion week Spring/Summer 2014 review

Phillip Lim's S/S 2014 collection is inspired by the elements, and the textures and lines of landscapes, as shown by the use of an ice machine and a salt lined catwalk.

The collection is a range of smart, sophisticated fabrics and cuts that have been finished off with colourful geographical shapes. Coloured smart trousers are popular in the range, matching well with peplum shirts.

A bleach dye fabric is used for lots of the collection, along with a gorgeous shimmering material that looks elegant and luxurious as a collared shirt and an oversized sleeveless tuxedo jacket.

Lim's designs seem highly inspired by texture and snowy landscapes.

Phillip Lim's collection for chain store Target went on sale today with prices starting from $14.99.

Benefit Erase Paste review

Erase Paste is part of the 'Confessions of a Concealaholic' kit I recieved last Christmas, the brightening concealer comes in fair, medium and deep, the kit comes with Erase Paste in medium.

Erase Paste is designed to camouflage dark circles around the eyes for a brighter appearance.

The medium colour is possibly slightly too dark for my skin but it is easily blended and only a very small amount of product is required for maximum coverage so the shade is not too much of an issue for me.

The large erase paste comes with a small spatula to help you apply it yo your eye area, since I have the mini version I use both the small brush in the Concealaholic kit and my bigger concealer Benefit brush.

To apply the product dab the brush into the pot very lightly, the product is very thick so you only need a small amount, dab the concealer under your eye from the inside corner outwards and blend very gently using your finger.

I have very dark circles under my eyes and Erase Paste does a great job of not only covering them up but it makes my under eyes appear brighter too, although the product will sink into your eye crease any applied directly to my dark circles stays put all day, although I usually apply a powder ontop to fix the product into place more securely.

Benefit's Erase Paste costs £19.50

Soap & Glory powder review

After buying and loving the Soap and Glory thick and fast mascara I decided to invest in some more of their products.

The powder titled; 'one heck of a blot' comes in a compact case with an applicator and a mirror, the packaging fits with the rest of the Soap and glory products perfectly.

The powder is a translucent colour and can be easily applied with a powder brush too, it doesn't have a very high coverage but it has a long staying time without caking over.

The colour palettes Marc Jacobs has created are playfully fun and include colours suitable for everyday wear.

The 16 foundation shades are created from gel and use anti-ageing technology that achieves a full coverage, Jacobs believes that the natural look is "a little lazy." (as quoted in Grazia)

Dolce and Gabbana sentanced to 20 months in jail

Mr Domenice Dolce and Mr Stafano Gabbana have been accused in court of unfaithfully declaring their
earnings.

The pair have been sentenced to 20 months in jail although the sentenced have been suspended during their appeal.

The trial is a result of a crackdown on tax avoidance, beginning in 2008.

On Wednesday the judge ruled that the pair sold their brand to a Luxembourg based company in 2004 to avoid declaring taxes on royalties of about 1 billion Euros.

However the pair have always stated that they are innocent, and are appealing the sentence.

The company have declined to make a comment.

Matthew Williamson ready-to-wear autumn/winter 2013-2014

Matthew Williamson's ready-to-wear autumn/winter collection for 2013-2014 is a brilliant contrast between the returning trend monochrome and some bright summer colours.

The collection uses striped fabric to create a skirt suit set, a range of slim fitting trouser suits are also created using lime and violet colours, the sets are well fitting to the warmer months.
Matthew Williamson has designed many casual items that can be used in a range of combinations to create a wardrobe that is suitable throughout the spring and summer, with floral print being a large influence on the range. Williamson has created floral smart wear with small collars and floral inspired knit wear.

The roots of the range seem to be within aztec trends, used with textured layers, a fringed necklace is worn and it is combined with a crisp white suit. The summer items mainly consist of light fabric maxi dresses that use colours inspired by the toxic colouring of the Northern Lights, this is reflected by the two toned fringing over a cosmic printed high neck maxi dress.

Matthew said that: "The idea was to move the silhouette on, to look loose, move away from form-fitted and to be relaxed." The collection certainly performs whatever the occasion.
The collection is available to view here.

Rihanna's River Island collection at London Fashion Week 2013

Last summer it was announced that pop star Rihanna would design a fashion range for River Island, and the collection has finally been released at London Fashion Week 2013.

The collection is designed for spring/summer and features swimwear and holiday poolside lounge wear.

The daytime dresses are designed with a modern-day woman in mind, the fabric is light, brightly coloured and seeks inspiration from classic wrap dresses.

The casual wear for the collection shows dominant highlights from Rihannas latest favourite fashion trend, 90's grunge revival. Consisting of fishnet skirts and shirts, opaque maxi dresses, and baseball jackets.

I personally see the collection as a mixture of all popular trends from 2010 onwards, boyish inspired clothe, double denim and slouchy lounge wear.

The collection is available online and in-store from March 5, and it is likely that it will sell fast due to the singer's fame.

Some pieces of the collection are available to view here.

Beauty review: Benefit That Gal primer

'That Gal' primer is £21.50 and is available from benefit.com. The primer claims to highlight skin and correct dull, yellows skin tones, it does so through its shimmery pink colour. The thin texture feels nice on the skin and has a pleasant smell, although the primer is shimmery doesn't make the skin so, it simple it leaves the skin looking refreshed. The primer creates a nice base for foundation and helps it to stay in place, and it also makes it easier to apply. I used it with my Maybelline dream matte mousse foundation in cameo. Although you can get cheaper primers, I think that this product is worth the money as you need less than a pea sized amount for one use.

I would give the product an overall 4/5

John Galliano's fashion comeback

John Galliano has confirmed that after 2 years, he will be returning to the fashion industry.

Galliano is taking a temporary residency in Oscar de la Renta's New York studio. The designer was fired from the luxury brand Dior in 2011 after making anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris cafe.

The designer has not had a complete break from fashion, he designed Kate Moss' wedding dress in July 2011 and has been named as the new creative director of Schiaparelli. The brand John Galliano has also continued to release collections

Vogue reported that Galliano "has worked long and hard on his recovery", after Galliano admitted to WWD  "I am an alcoholic." de la Renta has known Galliano for many years, admires his work and is more than happy to be offering him such a vast opportunity.

The designer has deeply expressed his sympathy "I said and did things which hurt others, especially members of the Jewish community. I have expressed my sorrow privately and publicly for the pain which I caused, and I continue to do so. I remain committed to making amends to those I have hurt." Vogue reported.

Photoshoot and Fashion spread

It's been a while since I posted anything, I have been back at university with loads of deadlines, I also designed several Christmas/New Year nail patterns but was ill over the festive season. However here's a look at what I've been getting up to at university.

I helped to style, shoot and edit the photos we then created a 6 page magazine spread. Our theme was 'Wish you were here', we decided to shoot this with ideas of British holidays and thoughts of missing someone.

The photos are shot on Roker beach.
